PROGRAM AGENDA
BREAKFAST/REGISTRATION 8:00 - 8:30 AM
FAT GRAFTING: THE SCIENCE...WHAT DO WE REALLY NEED TO KNOW? AN UPDATE 8:30 - 9:00 AM
William Gerald Austen, MD
Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery
Massachusetts General Hospital
Boston, MA
Abstract: Autologous fat grafting is a powerful tool in both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. However, the many variable and various techniques as well as unpredictable graft retention benefit from clinical and basic science research. The author presents an overview of some of the science relevant to Plastic surgeons with a specific focus on his own research efforts to demonstrate what "really matters” in fat grafting. Research focused on understanding the variables involved in graft harvest, processing and injecting techniques will be highlighted. In addition, new technology will be presented as well as clinically applicable conclusions. Future directions will be suggested.

PERIORBITAL FAT GRAFTING: PRINCIPLES AND ART 9:00 - 9:50 AM
J. William Little, MD
Private Practice
Washington, DC
Periorbital Fat Grafting: Principles and Art
Abstract: Half of this concise 30-minute lecture is devoted to personal technical principles for fat grafting this most challenging of clinical regions (if one can graft well here, one can graft anywhere)…and half to clinical outcomes. In Part I, while harvest, preparation, and the use of adjuvants are all briefly discussed, the focus properly remains on placement (and includes both schematics and video). In Part II, while the emphasis remains on lowering the upper lid fold above and filling the suborbital hollow below, multiple other benefits of fat grafting (some of them surprising) are also presented and discussed within the time available.i
After Dr. Little's 30 minute presentation, he will be joined by Dr. Sydney Coleman from New York, NY in a panel discussion on the topic.

DEDICATED EXHIBIT BREAK 9:50 - 10:30 AM
FAT TO BREASTS 10:30 - 11:20 AM
Steven Kronowitz, MD
Private Practice
Houston, TX
Abstract: Fat grafting has revolutionized our approach to both reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. From the face to the buttocks it has changed our approach to patient care. Most controversial has been the use of fat grafting into the breasts because of concerns regarding post grafting surveillance imaging and recurrent or primary breast cancer. Dr. Kronowitz will discuss the oncologic safety of fat grafting into the breasts and its use in complicated cosmetic and reconstructive breast surgery.
After Dr. Kronowitz's presentation, he will be joined by Dr. Scot Glasberg from New York, NY in a panel discussion on the topic.

RISK OF DEATH FROM THE "BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT" 11:20 AM - 12:15 PM
Steven Teitelbaum, MD, FACS
Private Practice
Santa Monica, CA
Abstract: Gluteal lipoaugmentation is among the fastest growing of all aesthetic procedures with roughly 20,000 done annually in the USA. Following sporadic reports in the lay press and in medical journals, the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF) formed a task force which conducted surgeon interviews, analyzed data, and sent out a questionnaire. The risk of death is at least three or four times higher than even abdominoplasty, which until now was believed to be the highest risk aesthetic procedure. The presentation will present and analyze data and make recommendations for making the procedure safer and suggestions for future research.
After Dr. Teitelbaum's presentation, he will be joined by Dr. Daniel Del Vecchio from Boston, MA, and Dr. Sydney Coleman from New York, NY, in a panel discussion on the topic.
